Serengeti National Park, Tanzania’s most famous and visited park, is located in Northern Tanzania. Spanning 14,750 square kilometres (5,700 sq mi) of plains, savanna, riverine forest, and woodlands, the Serengeti offers a plethora of beauty with its diversity of plants and wildlife. The Serengeti is a truly spectacular place to visit and we highly recommend adding it as a destination when you visit Tanzania.

Wildlife

Serengeti is widely known for its wildebeest migration, where approximately 1.5 million wildebeest and 250,000 zebras migrate across the national park. Other wildlife that you will most likely see in the Serengeti include lions, leopards, rhinos, buffalos, elephants, cheetahs, hippos, hyenas, gazelle, crocodiles, giraffes, sable antelopes, and more.

Best time to visit

The best time to visit the Serengeti is between June and October. This is the dry season in Tanzania and animals are easier to see. However, animals are usually easy to spot all year round.

The migration usually starts in April and can be seen until October. The best time to visit is around June and July. Wildebeest calves are usually born in February.
