Tanzania is Calling

    Custom safaris

Tanzania is home to 120+ ethnic groups with diverse cultures and languages. Tanzania’s national parks are some of the most beautiful places in the world but we also believe the beauty of Tanzania lies in its people, their cultural diversity, and the way people live in peace and harmony with one another. We want to share the soul of Tanzania with you on our unique cultural safaris.

Cultural Safaris allow travelers to experience Tanzanian culture by interacting with different ethnic groups and learning about their food, dance, art, and way of living. Africa Top Guide Expeditions currently offers a cultural experience on our Barbaig Route. We hope you will consider a cultural safari to learn more about Tanzania’s people and wildlife. Like our game safaris, these experiences are also designed to fit your interests.

    Barbaig Route

The Barbaig Route is a new route innovated by Africa Top Guide Expeditions outside the traditional tourist routes. The Route provides travelers with a blend of traditional multicultural experiences of the Datoga, Gorowa, Barbaig, and Hadzabe tribes along with visits to the beautiful untouched scenery of Northern and Central Tanzania. Some of the sites you will visit include Mount Hanang and Mount Kwaraa, the great North Rift Valley and Lakes Babati, Balang’dalalu, Bassotu and Eyasi.

Below is a sample itinerary for the Barbaig Route:

Day 1: The safari starts from Arusha through the Masai steppe to Tarangire National Park, famous for its elephants and Boabab trees, where you will go on a game drive for the rest of the day and spend the night.

Day 2: After an early morning drive at Tarangire National park, you will travel to the Vilima Vitatu area, where you will visit the Datoga families living on the southern shores of Lake Manyara. An additional game drive at Lake Manyara National Park can be arranged. From there, the group will drive to Babati, a small but growing town, where visitors will spend the night.

Day 3: In Babati, visitors will have a view of Mt Kwaraa (2415 mts) and have the option to take a day hike to the top if desired. Babati also offers Lake Babati, where visitors can choose to go canoeing to view hippos and fish with the local fisherman or relax and enjoy the sunset lakeside. A visit to Gorowa villages, where one will learn the traditional customs and practice of the Gorowa people and enjoy their lifestyle can also be arranged.
