Ruaha National Park is the largest national park in Tanzania and East Africa covering 20,226 square kilometers. The park is located in central Tanzania near the town of Iringa. The Great Ruaha River in the southeast part of the park is the main attraction for game-viewing. Ruaha is an amazing national park and can fit into a Northern Circuit or Southern Circuit itinerary.
Ruaha National Park has a large population of elephants and over 571 species of birds. You can also see most of the large African animals including lions, cheetahs, leopards, buffalo, hyenas, hippos, and more.
For predators and large mammals, visit during the rainy season (May – December). For birds and flowers, visit during the rainy season (January – April), however, roads can be more difficult to access.
